Committee

During the difficult times in the 1970's, the club was indebted to the hard work of Sir Richard Hamilton, the Honorary Secretary, whose translations of Albert De Luze's "La Magnifique Histoire du jeu de Paume" and Pierre Barcellon's "Régles et Principes de Paume" are important additions to the game's rich literary history. Sadly, Sir Richard, who had been President of the Club for seventeen years, passed away in September 2001, having only recently enjoyed his 90th birthday. To mark his contribution to the Club, the Dining Room was redecorated by Club members in 2004 and a beautiful set of curtains was generously donated by his widow, Elizabeth, Lady Hamilton.

Sir Richard, Roland Owen-George, Jim Calcott and Dr. Anthony Hobson helped to keep the club afloat and organized two successful appeals to pay for ongoing restoration work. They were instrumental in the appointment of Jonathan Howell. Dr. Hobson is well known for his portraits of Henry Johns, the Head Professional at Lords and Howard Angus, a former World Champion. He also painted the "Dinner Match" which hangs in the Bar at the Leamington Tennis Court Club.

Since Sir Richard's retirement in 1984, secretarial duties have been ably continued by Anthony Parsons and currently John Miller. Honorary Treasurers Jim Calcott, Tony Parsons and Anthony Parmiter, have, over the years kept a professional eye on the club finances. Mike Harwood and Paul Wilson-Gunn are now in the financial hot seat during the challenging Centenary year.

The Club progressed under the firm chairmanship of the Lord Willoughby de Broke from 1973 until 2002 when he retired to concentrate on his duties in the House of Lords, and he could, with some justification and satisfaction, claim that the Club should face the next millennium with great confidence. The Club has changed immeasurably since his first tuition from Ted Johnson in the late 1950's. Since then the Club has been refurbished and is a much warmer and more welcoming place for members and guests.

Recently, new showers have been installed, the grounds tidied up, the bar area redecorated and the driveway re-surfaced.
